Hi my Throne Room Brothers and Sisters! Our Pastor said last year before he went on a mission trip, that he received a word from the Lord. It was (paraphrasing) that God is trying to get SO MUCH MORE to the CHURCH BODY, but that we COLLECTIVELY are making the mistake of SEEING each other (relationship) in the FLESH. To be precise: We are looking at the person through the eyes (perception) of our flesh, rather than through the eyes (perception) of Christ (Spirit) in that person.
Flesh vs. Spirit is key in our relationships with each other. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other (Galatians 5:17). So if we walk by the flesh we will oppose the Spirit of God! It’s that simple but boy do we struggle.
What lenses we choose to look through, the Spirit or the flesh, directly impact how we interact and value one another. This is why God calls us to love one another as he has loved us (John 13:34) and submit to one another in reverence to Christ (Ephesians 5:21). Be devoted to each other and honor each other above yourselves (Romans 12:10). Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. (Romans 12:16). Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way. (Romans 14:13).
We can see here by these scriptures that if we are indeed walking in the Spirit as we all love to claim we are then what will it look like? It will look like what it says above: Love, Submission, Devotion, Honor, Harmony, Willingness, Humility, No Judgement, No Conceit, No putting obstacles in the way of our brothers and sisters which can come in all shapes and sizes.
Even the Lord Had This Problem in His Church
Mark 6:2-8 And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief.
Notice it says they took “offense” at Him! So we can see here the flesh gets offended at the Spirit of God as the scripture says. It also causes unbelief. As a result even Jesus Himself was only able to heal few people! Wow. That is powerful. So look at what happens when we get in the flesh. No wonder God is giving us this word because if we look at each other through the eyes of the flesh then we get offended and we don’t believe. As a result, He can’t get much information to us as the Church, which is who He has chosen to work through on earth.
Thankfully, God was able to get this issue communicated to us to help us and correct us, so we may grow. We can also tell from the scriptures that it is not a new problem. God is the One who knows our hearts and issues and while He gives us grace, part of that grace is helping us in loving correction. He needs to be able to reach us and change us the way He needs to for His Kingdom purposes.
What Lenses (perception) Are You Looking Through?
So let us consider this word with gracious hearts and bring it to Abba Father in humility. Let us each ask our Loving Father what do You need to do in me Lord? It starts with me Father.
But why is my flesh getting in the way you may ask? Why is my flesh getting so triggered? Again, this is scriptural, the flesh works against the Spirit. If you read Paul’s description of this in Romans 7, you will see Paul says WHO will rescue me from this, and He says Jesus. So keep that in mind as you explore this deeper. Knowing Jesus, your identity in Christ and willingness to submit to the Lord and walk by His Spirit in His power is what will ultimately bring you freedom in this.
If you want to start with some specific issues, as you are getting more rooted in the Word and your identity in Christ, here are some common triggers or issues:
Offense, Fear, Unbelief, Lack of discernment, Competition, Distrust, Jealously, Insecurity, Inferiority, Anger, Bitterness, Condemnation, Judgment
Do any of those things resonate with you? Do you feel this way or view anyone this way, even yourself? If any do resonate, the good news is you can take it right to God because you have identified something which is the first step, admitting the issue. You can start there with the Lord.
You will notice every one of these things point you back to self issues, possible wounds, perception issues etc. When you realize who you are in Christ these things will lesson by His power and your revelation. If they don’t resonate or you are not sure, you can go to Father God and ask Him something like this:
“Abba Father, I’m not sure where I fit in here. Does this Word apply to me? Please show me what my part is in this and what I need to learn. Please reveal to me if there are any areas where I am looking through the lenses of my flesh instead of through Your eyes in the Spirit. Please give me revelation of who I am in Christ that I may get my security from you and who You say I am. Help me to walk in the fruit of the Holy Spirit and not the flesh. Help me to see others, including myself through Your Holy Spirit of Truth. Go to the roots Lord and please replace any flesh lies with Your Truth in Jesus Name amen.”
Even God’s Correction Will Bring Life
Another encouraging key in this word is this: It’s not that God is not speaking to us, it is that we are not receiving all He wants us to! God then provides us with the solution: the reason for this, He highlights, is our flesh issues or our perceptions. So what is the solution? We need to pray and ask God to help us walk in the Spirit and not our flesh with each other, as well as, any roots to this problem that need correcting. We don’t want surface change but the roots to change.
How awesome our Lord is to reveal the problem and the solution! This is how God works. As a side note, be mindful of people who claim they have a word from God and it is all bad, there is no hope, no chance for repentance or redemption and no solution in it. If that is the case, it may not be from God, they may not know how to deliver it or they may not have received all God intended. God corrects, but He does it so we can actually repent (change our minds) and grow. He does not try to paralyze us in fear or condemn us so we don’t act. That would be counterproductive to His purpose. He will provide a way out, He is the Waymaker. Even in warnings He shows us so that we may act, pray even cancel out evil, not to paralyze us or agree with disaster. The Lord redeems. In this respect, even God’s correction will bring Life.
Remember that God is the perfect One but the vessels He uses are imperfect, so we can get in the way if we are not careful. Therefore, Give others and yourself grace and test the word. God is a God of Hope and Provision.
Does this speak to you at all? Would love to hear your comments.
God bless you! ALWAYS in His LOVE and GRACE, walking WITH you, your sis, Sybella Owens
